What is DHT Hair?

DHT is short form of Dihydrotestosterone an important substance for metabolism. It is also main reason for hair loss. DHT is produced in prostate gland, adrenal gland, testes and hair follicles. If you are facing any problem related with DHT then it has to be solved in development stage.

DHT contributes in many ways and hair loss is one of them. It is basically sex steroid at the same time it is androgen hormone. This hormone is responsible for determining male characteristics such as harsh voice, chest with hair, building muscle. Some testosterone is converted into DHT.

How it works in hair loss

DHT regulates sexual behavior. It plays remarkable role during puberty. The effects of DHT is mostly revealed through our hair. It creates obstacles and reduces hair growth. This process is taken place in follicles. It attacks weak follicles and leads to thinner hair. DHT connects with receptor cells of follicles called dermal Papillas. It prevents follicles to absorb necessary nutrients for natural growth. On the other side it shrinks, hair follicles shortened hair-growing stage and extend the resting stage.

DHT influences front side of scalp. In the front scalp, the weakest hair follicles locate. Male pattern hair loss is basically caused by DHT. It also causes female pattern hair loss. One amazing matter regarding scalp hair is, it grows without DHT but beard, hair of armpit and public hair will not grow without DHT.

How to treat DHT hair loss

The primary treatment is proper nutrition for your health. Otherwise whatever you do will not work in favor of hair growth. There are options for treating DHT caused hair loss. If you can increase blood, flow in the hair follicle then hair will start gaining back. Another option is creating obstacles in producing DHT. But whatever option you choose you have to take it with the help of doctor. Because these option needs, many factors to consider like family background, lifestyle, medical history etc.

Some necessary nutrients for treating DHT related hair loss are Vitamin A, B6, C, Biotin, Green Tea, eta-sitosterol, Pumpkin seed, Giant Dodder, Spironolactone or  Spiro cream, Azlaic acid, Ketoconazole etc.

There is a technique of removing plaque based on sebum where DHT contains. If you do this then your scalp skin will be fresh and ready to grow hair back. When this process is done then your scalp starts unblocking pores that helps to come hair freely.  It also increases blood flow of your scalp, which provides more nutrients to your hair.

To apply this technique you Himalayan salt, ginger, lemon juice, ginger, powdered activated charcoal etc. Take a half spoon of salt, charcoal, around 100 ml of ginger, cucumber juice and lemon juice. Now shake this mixture in a bottle and apply it to your scalp where hair may grow. Then mildly rub you scalp and leave it for 10 minutes. After some time you can wash it off. You have to do this procedure frequently to get a visible result.

DHT is really a reason that causes hair fall in both men and woman. If you can solve this problem then you can reduce 80% hair fall problem. Although the process is not that easy. So you have to seek an expert help.

Women and Dihydrotestosterone

Dihydrotestosterone or DHT is derivative of the male hormone testosterone. It enhances development of male characteristics. It is produced through conversion of testosterone. Everyday about ten percent of the testosterone produced by an adult, gets converted to DHT, by the ovaries in women and by the prostate and testes in men. Other parts of body and skin are also involved in the conversion. The production of DHT is usually lower before puberty. It is believed that increased production of DHT triggers the start of puberty in boys, causing development male genitalia, growth of body and pubic hair. In men, DHT causes the prostate to grow and expression of male sexual behavior, in combination of testosterone. DHT is far more potent than testosterone. When testosterone is converted to DHT is when many of the effects of testosterone takes place in the body.

DHT, Women and Hair Loss

Women do have DHT. In women, DHT causes growth of body and pubic hair after puberty. DHT is also believed to be responsible for hair loss in both men and women. Androgenetic alopecia is a particular type of hair loss, which was believed to be caused by the predominance of testosterone. Women also have testosterone in trace amount in normal conditions. But when the balding process in women seems to be caused by mainly testosterone, DHT is thought to be the main reason.

Hair follicles get harmed by the hormonal process of testosterone transforming into DHT. Women have a very small fraction of the amount of testosterone that men have. But even very small amount of testosterone can be responsible for DHT-triggered hair loss in women. When there is increase in testosterone levels, DHT becomes even more of a problem.

DHT is like an enemy to hair follicles on your head. DHT wants the hair follicles dead, under certain conditions. This action is at the root of hair loss of many kind. Enzyme 5-alpha reductase helps testosterone converts into DHT. DHT causes hair follicles to shrink, which doesn’t allow healthy hair to survive. The growing phase of hair’s cycle gets shortened by DHT over time, which causes hair cycle’s resting phase to grow longer, as pointed out by David H. Kingsley, author of ‘The Hair-loss cure’. DHT also gradually downsize the affected follicles. It causes those hairs to be shorter and finer. This process as well as hair loss continues and accelerates.

How Dihydrotestosterone Level go up or Down

Presence of the amount of dihydrotestosterone in the body from day to day depends on the presence of testosterone in the body. The higher the level of testosterone, the more of it converts to dihydrotestosterone and the higher the levels of dihydrotestosterone get. Regulation of dihydrotestosterone levels gets accomplished through control of testosterone production. Testosterone production is regulated by the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland. When levels of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone go down, the hypothalamus secrete gonadotrophin-secreting hormone, which goes to pituitary gland, stimulating it to produce and secrete luteinizing hormone into the bloodstream. Luteinizing hormone then goes to the leydig cells in the ovaries in women and testes in men and stimulate production of more testosterone. With increase in testosterone, more of it converts to dihydrotestosterone, leading to higher levels of dihydrotestosterone. From hypothalamus, the manufacture of gonadotrophin-secreting hormone gets suppressed as result of surge in testosterone and dihydrotestosterone. This, in response, quashes production of luteinising hormone by the pituitary gland. As a result, levels of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone go down and negative feedback decreases and the hypothalamus restarts release of gonadortrophin secreting hormone.

Too much or too little Dihydrotestosterone

In women, too much DHT cause increase in facial, body and pubic hair. It can stop menstrual periods and cause increased acne. Too much DHT can also cause abnormal changes to female genitalia. Too little DHT, on the other hand, may cause delay in the start of puberty in girls. There can also be reduction in body and pubic hair in adult females.

Caffeine Can Help

Caffeine can help prevent the harmful effects of DHT on hair follicles and enhance growth of new hair, as found out by a German team of researchers. Findings of the researchers were published in ‘International Journal of Dermatology’ in January 2007. Findings of the researchers were based on an in vitro study on link between caffeine’s effect and hair follicle proliferation. Nonetheless, consumption of more coffee, cola and tea may not do much to save hair, as pointed out in a Mail online article by Pat Hagan. Topical applications of a caffeine-rich cream or lotion can help block the harmful effects of DHT and enhance hair growth, as suggested by Pat Hagan.

DHT Inhibitors and Blockers

DHT inhibitors and blockers may help lower the level of DHT or stop the movement of DHT in the blood. Consequently, it can help stop hair loss and facilitate hair regrowth. Most of the DHT inhibitors and blockers can also help the blood circulate properly. DHT inhibitors and blockers come in the form of DHT conditioners, shampoos, topical solutions and other formats that can facilitate hair regrowth. One of potent hair loss remedies is Inhairit anti-DHT scalp therapy. This product is doctor-formulated and all natural. It may not have side effects and is easy to use.

Regardless of how good or effective DHT inhibitors or hair loss remedies claim they are, it is always important to verify it involving a doctor. It is good to get help from a doctor to manage DHT level and its effects.
